The nose is one of the more distinguishing features of the face. When someone is uncomfortable with the appearance of their nose, it can be a personal distraction. An undesirable nasal appearance can be corrected with the procedure known as Rhinoplasty, frequently referred to as a “Nose Job.”
This is a facial plastic surgery procedure that is known for making people feel more confident about themselves. A Rhinoplasty is also often associated with a Nasal Airway Surgery or Septoplasty which is a procedure that corrects breathing problems & addresses both the Form & Function of the nose. Often many Rhinoplasty Patients have had a broken Nose &/or have a Deviated Septum & Nasal Airway Obstructions which causes them to experience difficulty breathing.
Lack of Oxygen leads to Sleep Disorders (including Sleep Apnea), Mood Disorders, Mental Health Disorders, lack of Focus, Chronic Sinus Infections & Migraine Headaches (to name a few). These procedures, both Rhinoplasty & Septoplasty, can greatly improve a person’s quality of life. Learn more in the following testimonial.

The average Rhinoplasty addresses form and function - to the outward appearance, as well as the airway to improve breathing. The goal of a nose job is to have a nose that looks good and breathes well.
There are multiple approaches to nasal surgery - the approach depends on the extent of the procedure needed to address the individual concerns. It is difficult to review all of the intricate details in this segment. In short, an anatomical correction is achieved by taking one’s own anatomy and enhancing the form of the nose to be more desirable. Areas commonly addressed include; the nasal dorsum (the hump), the nasal tip, the width of the nose, and the internal airway.
During a personal consultation, Dr. Fairbanks will be able to discuss the various areas to be corrected and the individual details for the proposed nose job procedure. A Rhinoplasty requires advanced surgical techniques and artistry to achieve the desired goals.
Internal Nasal Airway Surgery is often done in conjunction with the cosmetic Rhinoplasty. This straightens a deviated septum and opens the airway for better breathing. Once the Rhinoplasty is completed and the improved shape is achieved, the work is protected with internal nasal packing and an external nasal splint. This allows for the new nose to better retain the desired results.
Dr. Fairbanks uses the patient’s own tissues when doing nasal surgery. This allows the nose to be sculpted into an optimal shape without the risk of rejection of implanted material. The use of synthetic materials, other than sutures, is discouraged in Rhinoplasty surgery. These materials have been known to work their way out of the nose, causing an unfortunate deformity and scarring.

1. At Least A Week Off of Work is Recommended
2. Excessive Motion of the Arms is Discouraged During the Healing Process
3. Heavy Lifting is Discouraged During the Healing Process
4. A Compression Garment is Worn for the Liposuction Areas for 6 Weeks
5. Pain Medication is Given for Discomfort
Taking 2 Weeks Off Work Is Recommended
Avoid Strenuous Activity For 6 Weeks
Avoid Contact Sports For 6 Weeks
Heavy Lifting Is Discouraged During The Healing Process
A Cool Mist Humidifier Is Encouraged For Comfort
Pain Medication Is Provided For Discomfort
Allow 3-6 Months For The Swelling To Subside
One should plan on 1-2 weeks off from work. The overall recovery of a Rhinoplasty depends on the individual patient’s health. Initially, there will be some discomfort, which lessens day by day. Pain medications will help. A cool-mist humidifier is encouraged for comfort due to mouth-breathing while the nose is packed. Once the packing is removed, a lighter external splint will be provided. Strenuous activities, including exercise and sports, are discouraged for the first 6 weeks while the healing tissues have a chance to become stronger. Even though immediate results are appreciated shortly after the splint is removed, it takes 3-6 months for all of the swellings to subside. The scars will be difficult to see as they are well hidden. A healthy lifestyle will help with recovery.
