It can be frustrating to be on that diet and exercise program that results in a decent weight, but there is that extra fat that won’t go away. Liposuction, occasionally referred to as “Lipo” is a surgical sculpting procedure that slims, contours, and reshapes specific areas of the body. Our Liposuction removes unwanted fat deposits and refines your body contours and shape.
Liposuction techniques can be used to reduce localized fat deposits of the:
1. Abdomen and waist
2. Hips and buttocks
3. Thighs
4. Upper arms
5. Back
6. Inner knees
7. Chest area for men
8. Cheeks, chin, and neck
Liposuction, in conjunction with other large cosmetic surgery procedures, is not recommended due to the increased safety risk involved. All parameters are carefully followed to ensure the utmost patient safety.
Adding the discarded fat back into the body in a more pleasing place can also be accomplished. This treatment is called “Fat Transfer” or “Fat Grafting” and can be added to enhance your own natural breast tissue (Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation) in your lips or even scars.
Liposuction is not a way to treat obesity or a substitution for proper diet and exercise. It will not help with loose, saggy skin for which other procedures may be recommended.
Liposuction is for those who are bothered by extra fat that doesn’t respond to diet or exercise.
Other factors include:
1. Unable to change appearance with diet and exercise
2. Firm elastic skin
3. Good physical health
4. Stable weight
5. Positive outlook and realistic expectations
The areas to be treated are marked before the operation. Liposuction is done either in a hospital or a surgical center. Usually, this is under general anesthesia, but can occasionally be done under local anesthesia with sedation. Sterile techniques are important to avoid potential infections. The incisions with liposuction are small and inconspicuous. After the incision is made, a thin, hollow tube known as a cannula, is inserted through the incisions to infuse a fluid that helps to decrease the amount of bleeding that could occur. Another set of cannulas are used through the same small incisions to release excess fat using a meticulous back–and–forth motion. The displaced fat is suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum attached to the cannula. Care is taken to avoid removing too much fat, which may give the patient an unnatural appearance. Only a stitch or two is needed to close the incisions. A compression garment is placed to help with the contour and swelling.
When the anesthesia wears off, you may have some discomfort. Patients have described it as the pain after a good hard workout. Pain medications help. The incision sites will drain some fluid for the first day. During your liposuction recovery, a special compression garment or elastic bandages cover the treatment areas for 6 weeks. These help to control swelling and compress the skin to your new body contours. Results are noticed right after the initial dressings are removed. The final results are usually noticed around 3 months after the surgery.
It is important to remember that recovery time and experiences vary from person to person. It is important to follow all instructions. For the first few days following your liposuction procedure, you should plan on resting. Strenuous activities and heavy lifting are discouraged for the next 4 weeks. After that, exercise routines can be resumed.
Our Liposuction surgery results are technically permanent because fat cells have been removed; although you could still increase the size of remaining fat cells in that area. Results will vary with each patient. Your body shape and contours might be affected by weight gain, aging, pregnancy, family genes, and lifestyle factors. Skin tightening depends on the initial quality and elasticity of a person’s skin.
A lifestyle that is active and healthy will help to better maintain your new appearance. A proper diet and regular exercise will decrease unwanted weight gain, maintain a longer-lasting result and increase your quality of life.
