Breast Lift: Mastopexy

Overview of Breast Lift

1. Breast Lift is also known as a Mastopexy

2. One of the most popular cosmetic surgeries

3. Now more common than Breast Augmentation

4. Enhances the shape and appearance of the breasts

5. Recovery is relative to the patient

6. At least 1 week off of work is recommended

7. Look forward to more shapely breasts

8. Affectionately known as the Rawhide Bra–“Rounds ‘em up and moves ‘em out, Rawhide”

Intro to Breast Lift

Sagging breasts are often a result after childbirth or weight loss. This is also part of the aging process, as tissues are less elastic and gravity takes a toll. The Breast Lift, also known as Mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that corrects sagging (ptotic) breasts, restoring them to a more attractive and natural position.

Candidates for Breast Lift

1. Sagging or droopy breasts

2. Women who feel their breast appearance is unattractive

3. Women who have low self-esteem about their breasts, especially with intimacy

4. Women who consider their breasts undesirable, especially after pregnancy

5. Good physical health

6. Non-Smoker

7. Positive outlook and realistic expectations

Details of Procedure

Pre-surgical markings are made based on the patient’s anatomic landmarks. The goal is to restore the breasts to a more anatomic shape. The excess skin is removed and the nipples are raised to the natural position. Care is taken to protect the blood supply and nerves. If one breast is larger than the other, some extra tissue may be removed at that time. A surgical bra is provided to help provide support after the procedure.

The incisions and scars are similar for both the Breast Lift and the Breast Reduction. Our Breast Lift in Salt Lake City restores the breast to a more desirable shape and appearance. The Breast Reduction does the same thing but removes extra breast tissue in the process.

Recovery After Breast Lift Procedure

1. At least 1 week off of work is recommended

2. Avoid strenuous activity for 6 weeks

3. Heavy lifting is discouraged during healing process

4. Pain medication is given for discomfort

5. Within the next year, the redness of the scars will fade

After a breast lift, everyone is worried about pain. Pain medications are given to manage the discomfort. Excessive motion of the arms and heavy lifting are discouraged during the healing process. Minimal motion allows for the breast tissue to heal and keeps the breasts in proper position. At least 1 week off of work is encouraged. Over the next year, as with breast reduction, the scars will mature and the redness will fade. While some are more resilient than others, overall recovery is dependent on the individual. Either way, the end result includes lifted and shapelier breasts. More importantly, we find happy and satisfied patients.

Expectations After a Breast Lift

Instructions are given after the surgery to guide activities and limitations. Strenuous activities and aerobic exercise is discouraged for the first 6 weeks; thereafter, usual activities may be resumed.

Nipple sensation is important. The anatomic techniques used in this surgery help to protect the nerves that provide sensation to the nipples.

Overall, the Breast Lift patient can expect satisfaction with her more youthful appearance.

Mammograms are recommended at the regular scheduled times.

Results of Breast Lift Surgery

The results from the Breast Lift surgery in Salt Lake City are satisfying and can provide desirable results for years to come.

Often a woman feels that she has a bit of a “Breast Augmentation look” after a Breast Lift. This is because the breast tissue is lifted and gathered together, as opposed to being distributed in stretched out skin. There are some who still want to be larger. If both Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift surgery in Salt Lake City are desired, you should discuss your options with your plastic surgeon. Breast Augmentation with Fat transfer after Breast Lift has become a wonderful option in conjunction with this procedure.
