About the Mini Tummy Tuck

Some think they need a full Tummy Tuck to make their abdomen smoother. They may have excess belly skin and fat they can’t tighten up, even with diet and exercise; but, it’s in the lower abdominal area only. Our Mini Tummy Tuck in Salt Lake City is another popular cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen. During this surgery separated lower abdominal muscles may be restored to a normal position, giving the lower abdominal area a more smooth and firm look.

Candidates for a Mini Tummy Tuck

Typically, the Mini Tummy Tuck candidate is one who has excess lower abdominal skin and fat after pregnancy and/or weight loss while the upper abdominal skin is just fine.

Other factors include:

1. Cannot change abdominal appearance with diet and exercise

2. Non-smoker

3. Good physical health

4. Stable weight

The Procedure

With the mini tummy tuck at our clinic, an incision is made in the lower abdominal crease. Often, a prior C-section scar can be removed at the same time. Only a portion of the lower abdominal skin is removed. The lower portion of the separated rectus abdominis muscles (the 6-pack) may be pulled together with a series of strong sutures if possible. The skin from the upper abdomen, above the navel, is not brought downward. The navel is left in the same place. The lower abdominal stretch marks are decreased but not completely removed during the mini-abdominoplasty operation.

Recovery

There will be some discomfort initially but less than with a full-scale Tummy Tuck. This lessens over the week. Pain medications are helpful for mini-abdominoplasty operations. The overall recovery of a Tummy Tuck depends on the patient’s health. One to two weeks off from work for recovery is recommended. A compressive garment is used for about 6 weeks. Strenuous activities, exercise, and sports are discouraged for the first 6 weeks to allow the healing tissues to become stronger. The scar will be red initially but will fade over the next year.

Results for mini-abdominoplasty will vary. An active and healthy lifestyle will help to better maintain this new Mini Tummy Tuck appearance. A good diet and exercise will decrease unwanted weight gain and increase the quality of life.
